life insurance

Designating Operation Eyesight as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy is a great way to transform affordable premium payments into a significant future donation and provide tax-saving benefits! There are three ways you can use life insurance to donate to Operation Eyesight:

  1. Name Operation Eyesight as the beneficiary on your life insurance policy.
  2. Donate an existing or new life insurance policy directly to Operation Eyesight.
  3. Donate certain assets to Operation Eyesight and use a life insurance policy to replace the value of the donated assets.

DONATIONS IN LIEU OF FLOWERS

Consider asking your loved ones to add a statement to your obituary or funeral card to let others know that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Operation Eyesight Universal in your memory.

Cash or securities

This gift is an amount made out to Operation Eyesight. Gifts of cash are available for immediate use in the form of cash, cheque, credit card or pre-authorized contributions paid monthly. They can also be given in the form of a general bequest in your will.

RRSPs or RRIFs

Gifts are made when you name Operation Eyesight as the beneficiary. This means that upon your death, Operation Eyesight would receive the proceeds and your estate would receive a charitable receipt. This receipt would counterbalance your final tax return, transforming any final tax liabilities you have when you die into a charitable gift.

Real estate

A gift of real estate is made when you leave property that you own to Operation Eyesight. This type of gift can be given immediately or specified in your will. Your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt to be used in your final income tax return.

Charitable remainder of trusts

A gift of trust is made when you decide to make Operation Eyesight the secondary beneficiary to an irrevocable trust. The primary beneficiary includes you, and if applicable, your spouse. Throughout your lifetime, or for a stated period of time, you will receive a pre-determined amount of the trust. Upon your death, Operation Eyesight would receive the remainder of the trust.
