Senior Programme Manager
Tapobrat Bhuyan is a community development project expert with over 12 years of experience in leading large-scale, Corporate Social Responsibility-supported health initiatives in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, corporate donors and government health departments. In recognition of his contributions to eye health, he was named an Eye Health Hero – Future Leader (2021) by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
Based in Guwahati, Assam, India, Tapobrat currently serves as our Senior Programme Manager, overseeing Vision Centre-Based Community Eye Health Projects across Assam, West Bengal, Nepal and Bangladesh.
“I was born in the North-Eastern region of India, which is difficult to work in due to a lack of proper connectivity, infrastructure and trained manpower. Since childhood, I have seen many senior community members live the last part of their lives with blindness – something that a simple cataract surgery could have prevented. Today, I am fortunate to contribute to eliminating avoidable blindness from my region. In my role, I strategically plan and implement Operation Eyesight’s community eye health programmes to raise awareness and ensure that the maximum number of people receive the care they need.”
Tapobrat holds a master’s degree in social work and sociology, and a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also holds post graduate diplomas in mass communication and journalism and rural development. His core areas of expertise include training, program design, project implementation in both rural and urban contexts, impact measurement and behaviour-change communication.
Outside of work, Tapobrat is passionate about urban development, promoting cultural activities, and community-led, sustainable development. He frequently visits project sites to remain closely connected to the communities his programs serve.
