David MacInnis is a public policy, external engagement and communications professional with 30+ years’ experience.
Currently the Principal at Know & Show Social Risk Consultants (Calgary), David helps organizations assess, address and transparently report on the impact of operations and projects on people. He advises on managing existing and emerging social risks, identifying associated opportunities, and strengthening and building alliances and relationships. He and his colleagues conduct human rights risk assessments, social impact assessments and assurance reviews of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. They also develop salient issue action plans, modern slavery statements and action plans, and participatory consultation plans.
David retired from Chevron Corporation where he worked in the ESG (environmental, social and governance) Policy and Engagement group, leading technical engagement on human rights. Prior to working with Chevron, his career path saw him in roles as president of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association, an executive with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, an advisor to Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and a staff member in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada. He began his career as a journalist.
“It is an honour to be able to contribute to Operation Eyesight’s mandate to prevent and treat vision loss. Especially during some of my international work assignments, I witnessed the impact on individuals, families and communities that vision loss can have,” he says. “Supporting Operation Eyesight’s network of medical care providers and the critical work they perform is a very rewarding experience.”
David is also a member of the Public Board of the Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network, the Advisory Committee for the Master of Arts in Leadership (executive leadership specialization) at Royal Roads University and the National Consultation Committee for the Canadian Grief Alliance. He holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is a citizen of both Canada and the Republic of Ireland.
