Ms. Doreen Richards
Doreen Richards is a lawyer with a particular interest in planning and development law. While she is a lawyer, the focus of her interest is the business financial side of law. For a number of years she also managed a mortgage investment corporation.
Born and raised in Ontario where her extended family still resides, Doreen studied at Brock University, achieving a degree in Geological Sciences before graduating from law at the University of Toronto in 1976. Doreen has practiced law in Alberta since 1977, which is also where she married and, together with her husband, has raised two sons.
Doreen was a member of the board of Operation Eyesight from 2000-2007 and rejoined in 2013.
“Every time I reach for my glasses to read or to drive, I am reminded that the lack of eye treatment and the lack of an appropriate pair of glasses affects so many people drastically. And we have the technical capability to remedy the situation now. Together, we can achieve significant results.”
Doreen is currently a director of the Calgary Public Library Foundation where she chairs the finance and audit committee. She is also treasurer of her church. She has been involved in numerous charitable organizations over the years including Kids Help Phone, YWCA and the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary (DDRC). Among Doreen’s other interests are tennis, cycling, travelling and skeet shooting.
