Brian Foster

Director Emeritus

Brian Foster has been an active member of the Calgary not-for-profit community for nearly 25 years. With experience ranging from retail, manufacturing, distribution and sales; to human resources, career transition and coaching; to international development and global fundraising, Brian has enjoyed a varied and interesting career.

Brian served as Operation Eyesight’s Executive Director from 2012 to 2018, and he has previously served in various capacities for the organization.

Prior to joining Operation Eyesight’s leadership team, Brian served as Chair of the Canada Board of Directors. During that time, the Board transitioned from an operational board to a governance one, which coincided with Operation Eyesight’s transition from an aid organization to one of development.

“Operation Eyesight will always be a big part of my life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the organization and those we help, and to contribute what I can to further our mission to prevent blindness and restore sight.”

Since retiring from Operation Eyesight in May 2018, Brian has continued to give back to his community and remain purposeful through his volunteer work and leadership consulting. His community volunteer work includes VIVO Healthier Generations Society (governance chair), the United Way of Calgary & Area (founding ambassador), Calgary Health Trust’s South Health Campus Council, and Gems for Gems (former board chair).

A certified human resource Fellow, Brian has also served on human resources boards locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. His work in both the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors has provided him with opportunities to travel extensively throughout North America, Africa and South Asia.

Brian and his wife, Margot, have three children and five grandkids who make life the most fulfilling, interesting and fun.
